Sting – Shape of My Heart スティング – シェイプ・オブ・マイ・ハート
イギリスのロックバンド ザ・ポリスの中心メンバーだったベーシスト兼ボーカリスト スティング の5枚目のソロアルバム「Ten Summoner’s Tales」(1993年)に収録されている曲です。
映画「レオン」(1994年公開)のエンディングに使用され、日本でも知名度が高い曲です。
ギターの美しいアルペジオは、スティングとともに活動するギタリスト ドミニク・ミラーのもので、彼がウォーミングアップで弾いていた(ショパン風の)旋律がスティングの耳に留まり、そこから一気に(一日で)曲を作り、歌詞を書き、録音まで仕上げたそうです。
歌詞の意味と解釈
タイトル「 シェイプ・オブ・マイ・ハート 」を訳すと"私の心の形“です。
この曲はトランプのゲーム(ポーカー)がテーマになっており、タイトルにあるハートは、"心"(または愛)と"トランプのハート"のダブルミーニングになっています。
その為、歌詞の内容は「ギャンブラーの美学と生き様」と解釈できそうです。
歌詞におけるポーカーを"人生“や"恋愛“あるいは"創作活動“の暗喩だと解釈して読んでみても、意味が成立しそうです。
