3.6K Ratings The best translation app. Hands down.So the problem with many translators (especially google translate) is the fact that they typically will give you the “correct” translation but since language evolves and CONTEXT matters, this app tops any translation app by showing you hundreds of ways a word can be used. Honestly I could go on forever however I do have one piece of advice for the app developers regarding the voice play back feature. Regarding pronunciation I believe it would be especially helpful to include the phonetic IPA spelling for vocabulary as such found in common dictionaries. This would help those familiar with the IPA language understand how to correctly pronounce the words in the text. Since sometimes it’s a bit difficult to replicate the pronunciation of the voice playback to someone trying to properly pronounce a new word. Other than that the app is amazing. Thanks for your work.

Not Ready for Prime TimeI regret paying the subscription price for this app. The app claims to be intelligent, but to me it seems lazy. The translation examples, which are scraped from the internet, are sometimes wrong. You can report those, but incorrect translations shouldn’t be delivered to users who may have a hard time spotting them. Also, the app may give you many translations for a word or phrase but the quiz will accept only one. For example, in a quiz the app may ask you to translate the English word “sometimes” into French. There are many ways to translate “sometimes” (as the translation tab will show you), but in the quiz it is looking for only one. So if it’s looking for tantôt and you type parfois, which also means sometimes, it will tell you that’s incorrect. If you type quelque fois, which also means sometimes, it will tell you that’s incorrect. If you type des fois, which also means sometimes, it will tell you that’s incorrect. Et cetera. Why can’t the quiz part of the app consult the translation part of the app to see that all of these responses are correct? This must be fixed. There’s no way to claim this app is using any kind of intelligence, artificial or otherwise, as long as it’s telling users that correct answers are incorrect. Furthermore, the quizzes claim to use a clever repetition sequence, but in practice they seem to assume that all humans memorize a word or phrase once it has been seen seven times. The translation feature also needs to offer both vous and tu translations or allow users to toggle between them. Maybe when these things have been fixed it will be worth paying for.

I have hesitated to upgrade to premium for two reasons: 1. Some sentence translations are wildly, wildly wrong. 2. I love everything about this app and I have used it since I was 15 and just starting to learn French. It provides synonyms, whole sentence translations with proper grammar scriptures, and explanations and examples that so many translation apps fail to give. This isn’t something you should use to cheat on a paper or in class, but it is such a good learning tool to actually pick up many different words in the language! I still use it every day, it helped me though high school, college, my relationship w my French boyfriend when I was still rocky, and now helps me with Spanish as I pick up my third. Thank you so much for this app! My only complaint is that you don’t give enough characters to type for free, if the amount was larger, say, even 500 this would be the most used translation app on the App Store.
