野麦峠 / Nomugi pass
Nomugi Pass, or Nomugitoge, is a historic mountain pass located in the Hida region of Japan, connecting the modern-day Nagano and Gifu prefectures. This pass is known for its challenging terrain and significant role in Japanese history, especially during the Edo period and the early Meiji era.In the early Meiji period, teenage girls from the Hida region traveled through Nomugi Pass to work in the silk industry in Suwa, Nagano Prefecture. This became widely known due to a film that depicted their journey.
