Lake Motosu is one of the Fuji Five Lakes and boasts the highest transparency in Honshu. It is 121.6m deep and located at the northwest foot of Mt. Fuji. It is famous for the view of upside-down Mt. Fuji depicted on the back of the old 1,000 yen bill, and the view from Nakanokura Pass is particularly beautiful. Mt. Fuji from the lake shows different expressions throughout the seasons, such as Diamond Fuji and upside-down Fuji, and attracts many photography enthusiasts. In 2013, it was included as a component of Mt. Fuji’s World Cultural Heritage.
