Oil and Oil Filter Replacement for Yamaha V Star 650

Descriptive guide for replacing the engine oil and oil filter on a Yamaha V Star 650 motorcycle. Obtain 3 litres of Motul SAE 10W40 oil and an HIFLO HF145 oil filter. Position the motorcycle on a central lift. Start the engine and bring it to temperature, then switch off. Place a container for the used oil under the engine. Using a 17mm socket spanner, unscrew the oil drain plug located under the engine on the left side. Allow all the oil to drain out. Using a ratchet and a 4mm hex insert, unscrew the eight screws of the oil filter cover/case on the right side (round cover with three screws first). Remove the filter cartridge and clean the housing thoroughly. Insert the new filter and replace the sealing gasket of the cover. Screw the oil drain plug back in. Open the oil filler cap located on the right side and pour in the oil using a funnel. The manufacturer specifies 2.8 litres with filter replacement. Pour in the 2.8 litres and check the level through the inspection hole under the filler cap.
