『赤鼻のトナカイ』に学ぶ “call him names” ってどんな意味？

Dasher やら Dancer やらはトナカイの名前で、ちゃんと1頭1頭に名前がついているんですね。その中でも一番有名なのが、赤い鼻のRudolphというわけです。

All of the other reindeerUsed to laugh and call him namesThey never let poor RudolphJoin in any reindeer games
ちなみに、”shiny” も “glow” もピカピカの鼻を表していますが、”shiny” は光を反射して輝く「ピカピカの」で、”glow” はそれ自体が光を発している、という違いがあります。

“call somebody names” の意味とは？
“All of the other reindeer used to 〜” で「他のトナカイたちはみんなよく〜した（ものだった）」で、何をしたのかというと、
“laugh and call him names” です。これは「笑って彼の名前を呼んだ」ではありません。それなら “call his name” になるはずですよね。
“call somebody names” とはイディオムで、
to use unpleasant words to describe someone in order to insult or upset them

すると、他のトナカイたちはルドルフのことが好きになり「赤鼻のルドルフよ、You’ll go down in history」と歓喜の叫び声をあげました。
“go down in history” とは「（〜は）歴史に残る」という意味で、主語は必ずしも人でなくてもいいのですが、人が主語になると「（誰々は）歴史に名を残す」といった意味になります。
ちなみに「トナカイ」を表す “reindeer” は単数でも複数でも “reindeer” です。歌詞にも出て来たように “all of the other reindeer” で、ここは “reindeers” にはならないので、注意してくださいね。
また、”raindeer” と書き間違えてしまうことも多いので、要注意です！
