Battery Replacement for NUX Mighty Plug Pro

Yesterday I noticed my Nux MPP's back cover was out of place so I tried to push back in but it won't budge. I unscrewed two hex screws, pried open the cover using guitar picks, and found that the battery had bulged.

I guess it's time for a battery replacement. I've been getting only about an hour or two per charge these days so it was already due for a replacement anyway. I used my MPP for 2 years. Btw, the battery is soldered. Now, I just need to source a decent quality replacement.

Here are some pics of the internals in case anyone is curious.

Whoo! Spicy pillow! Take care not to puncture that.

If it'll help you find a replacement, the markings on the battery you care about are:

3.7V - Battery voltage. 3.7, which is very common for small batteries like that one.

1450 mAH - Battery capacity. You want something close to the marked capacity so the charging system will charge it properly.

603558 - Physical dimensions. 6.0mm high, 35mm wide, 58mm long. Batteries like this are sometimes custom-manufactured, so it might be difficult to find this exact size. Anything physically smaller will do fine, but you do want to find a pack that's close to the original's capacity so it will be charged properly. This number is usually prefixed with LP for Lithium-Polymer; don't know why yours isn't.

This part is important for your safety: The battery you have has a little circuit board attached that monitors its temperature and will cut off charging or current draw if it gets too hot. This prevents thermal runaway, which is what causes fires in these batteries. The battery has a pouch built in that contains whatever it vents before it's cut off. Any replacement battery must have the temperature management board and must not have a third (usually yellow) wire.

It's 1200mAh in a 603450 form factor so a little smaller in capacity and size but works fine. I'm getting roughly 4-5 hours of playing time per charge. I should point out that Mighty Plug Pro does not use JST connector but instead its wires are soldered. So cut the connector off and solder the wires.

It's not my first rodeo replacing lipo batteries but I somehow managed to literally puncture this one. Luckily nothing happened

Seems like what I get out of the stock battery. $4.50 a year for batteries doesn't seem bad.

The amount of FOOM you get depends on how much charge there is on the battery. New Posts
