BMW 8 Series G15/G14/G16: How to Remove Bumpers
The G15 model (and related body styles) has been in production since 2018 to the present. A facelift (LCI, Life Cycle Impulse) was introduced in 2022 for the 2023 model year. External changes were minimal: an updated kidney grille, new LED headlights and taillights, and additional paint options.
Body Types:
The BMW 8 Series G15 was offered in three body types, each with its own code:
- G15: Coupe (2-door, 4-seater). The base and most well-known version.
- G14: Convertible (2-door, 4-seater). Features a soft-folding roof.
- G16: Gran Coupe (4-door, 5-seater). Introduced later in 2019, it became the most popular version due to its practicality and elegant proportions.

- M8 Competition: The pinnacle of the series. 4.4-liter V8 (S63), 625 hp, 750 Nm. 0-100 km/h: ~3.2 sec. Available in all body styles.
All models were equipped with an 8-speed ZF Steptronic Sport automatic transmission and, depending on the modification, rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive.

How to Remove the Front Bumper
- Open the hood.
- Pull up and remove the hood seal.
- Remove the clips and bumper supports, then remove the central engine compartment cover.
- Under the cover, unscrew one screw. Using a thin flat-head screwdriver, release ten clips and remove the kidney grille.
- Move to the lower part. Unscrew ten screws from under the car.
- Turn the front wheels inward one at a time.
- Unscrew the screws securing the front part of the wheel arch liners.
- Pull the wheel arch liners aside and unscrew two screws on each left and right side that secure the corners to brackets in the fenders (requires a socket and extension).
- Release the clips in the fenders, then pull the bumper corners down and towards you.
- Release the clips along the entire perimeter of the top side of the bumper.
- With an assistant, pull the bumper straight forward (watch out for wiring).
- Disconnect the power connectors for electrical components.
How to Remove the Rear Bumper

- Near the rear lights, remove two clips and take off the rainwater gutter covers.
- Under the covers, unscrew two screws securing the top part of the rear bumper.
- Move to the lower part and unscrew eight screws that are screwed in from bottom to top.
- In the wheel arches, unscrew four screws that secure the wheel arch liners to the bumper.
- Pull the wheel arch liners aside and unscrew one screw on each left and right side that secure the corners to the fenders.
- Remove the license plate and pull out two clips behind it.
- The most challenging part: The bumper is secured from the inside by two clips to a metal reinforcement bar. There are two ways to access these clips:
- Release the clips and remove the lower part of the bumper, then pull out the two clips securing the bumper to the reinforcement.
- After releasing the top side of the bumper, use a long flat-head screwdriver to remove these clips.
- Release the clips in the fenders and pull the corners towards you.
- Release the clips under the rear lights and pull towards you.
- With an assistant, carefully pull the bumper straight back and disconnect the electrical connectors.

- Legend's Return: The first 8 Series (E31) was produced from 1989 to 1999. The G15 revived the model 20 years later.
