3 killed, 1 injured in van-motorcycle crash in Philippines

Manila: Three people were killed and another was injured after a speeding van crashed into a motorcycle along a highway in Oriental Mindoro province in the Philippines, police said Saturday.

The crash occurred on Friday afternoon in the municipality of Pola, when a van slammed into a motorcycle carrying a family -- a 35-year-old man, his 34-year-old wife, and their 10-year-old son, said police.

Initial investigations showed the family were heading to a transport terminal when they were struck from behind by the van.

A 59-year-old woman was also injured after being hit by debris while buying items at a nearby store, police said.

The van driver has been taken into police custody as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
