3I/ATLAS Tracker

This interactive 3D model provides a unique, fully explorable view of Comet 3I/ATLAS's hyperbolic trajectory. Unlike 2D maps, this simulator allows you to see the comet's steep 175-degree orbital inclination in three dimensions, helping you understand why its path takes it "under" the plane of our solar system. (Rotate with left-drag, pan with right-drag, and zoom with the scroll wheel.)

Powered by Three.js and accurate orbital mechanics, the model uses the latest data from the Minor Planet Center (MPC) and NASA/JPL. The comet's path is calculated using Keplerian elements for planets and hyperbolic solving for the comet, scaled for visualization.

Use this tool to visualize why 3I/ATLAS won't hit Earth (closest: Dec 19, 2025, ~1.8 AU) or other planets, despite its high speed and retrograde path. Data sourced from MPC ephemerides.

  • Interactivity: Freely rotate, zoom, and pan the solar system. Lock the camera to any body for focused tracking.
  • Real-Time Data: Positions update based on current Julian Date, with options to speed up, pause, or jump to events.
  • Visual Cues: Orbits shown as lines (white for hyperbolic comet path), with labels and scaling for clarity.
  • Closest Approaches: Jump to key events like perihelion (Oct 29, 2025, ~1.36 AU) or planetary flybys (e.g., Mars at 0.19 AU on Oct 3, 2025; Jupiter at 0.36 AU on Mar 16, 2026).
  • Scientific Accuracy: Uses hyperbolic excess velocity of ~58 km/s and inclination of 175.11° for precise rendering.
